As the excitement builds for the second quarter-final at the League of Legends World Championship 2024, it’s time to see who will progress to the next match against WBG: Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) or Bilibili Gaming (BLG).
BLG’s journey through the Swiss stage of Worlds 2024 was a rocky one, marked by two losses against teams from the LPL and LCK. This performance may not sit well with their fans, as consistency is key in such a high-stakes environment.
Conversely, Hanwha Life Esports also faced challenges but managed to qualify for the Knockout stage with one less match than BLG, despite suffering a defeat against the formidable Gen.G.
Both teams showcased their strength during the Swiss stage, with HLE triumphing over PSG, G2, and securing a hard-fought victory against FlyQuest. Meanwhile, BLG demonstrated dominance on the tournament’s opening day by decimating MDK.
The stakes are high as HLE and BLG battle it out in this critical quarter-final. Will Hanwha Life Esports advance further, or will Bilibili Gaming secure their spot in the next round? The match is set to be a thrilling clash.

Game Recaps
Game 1: HLE started slowly but quickly gained a massive advantage, overpowering BLG in an early skirmish. Despite BLG’s attempts to recover, HLE secured a crucial Baron and later achieved an Ace, leading to their first victory in the series.
Game 2: In response to their Game 1 performance, BLG adjusted their strategy, banning key champions like Poppy and Sylas. Their newfound synergy allowed them to dominate HLE, culminating in a decisive win that evened the series.
Game 3: Key Highlights
In Game 3 of the HLE vs. BLG match at LoL Worlds 2024, some intriguing picks emerged, notably Viper selecting Zeri—an uncommon choice for this event—and XUN opting for Wukong, marking his first appearance in the series.
Hanwha Life Esports began by claiming three Voidgrubs, trading them for a Dragon with BLG. They also secured the first two kills of the game, but the action slowed significantly afterward as both teams focused on safely developing their champions.
As HLE launched the Rift Herald, BLG executed a well-timed counter, taking down the Herald along with a few champions from HLE. With a newfound aggression, BLG initiated more team fights and quickly took the lead in kills.
Bin, playing Gnar for BLG, became a formidable force, accumulating gold and posing a significant threat to HLE. Despite HLE managing to secure a Dragon, they quickly found themselves in trouble afterward. BLG capitalized on this, starting the Baron shortly after and then decisively winning a team fight, eliminating all of HLE’s champions and advancing to match point in the quarter-final.
Game 4: A Tight Contest
In Game 4, HLE banned Wukong, but XUN surprised everyone by selecting Kindred for the jungle. HLE regained Gnar, while BLG went for Galio.
The first half of the match was tightly contested, with both teams trading kills and objectives to bolster their champions. However, BLG began to show their strength in team fights, even though the gold difference remained minimal.
An incredible team fight turned the tide in favor of HLE as they initiated the skirmish and wiped out all of BLG’s champions, gaining a 5,000 gold advantage in the process.
Nevertheless, BLG quickly retaliated, achieving an Ace just minutes later. They put up fierce resistance against HLE in a chaotic and tightly contested battle around Baron. Securing both the Mountain Soul and Baron proved critical, ultimately leading to the destruction of HLE’s Nexus.
Head-to-Head:
BLG has established itself as a major player in the international League of Legends esports scene. They secured second place at the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational, showcasing their skill despite losing to Gen.G. In the previous year, they finished 3rd-4th at Worlds 2023 and again placed 2nd at MSI 2023.
Hanwha Life Esports was formed from the ROX Tigers in 2018 and took some time to find their footing. However, they reached new heights in 2024 by defeating Gen.G in the LCK Summer Split, ultimately becoming the top team in Korea.
HLE’s previous significant international appearance was at the 2021 LoL World Championship, where they placed 7th-8th. BLG, on the other hand, did not participate in that tournament, marking the head-to-head record between BLG and HLE as beginning with their match in LoL Worlds 2024.
