On the final day of the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Play-In Stage, PCS first seed PSG Talon (PSG) faced North America’s third seed 100 Thieves (100T). PSG ultimately secured a 2-0 victory over 100T, advancing to the Swiss Stage (Top 16) of the World Championship.
Game 1
PSG drafted Orianna in the mid-lane, a champion Maple rarely plays, alongside Gnar top, Skarner jungle, Jhin ADC, and Alistar support. 100T responded with Vex mid, Renekton top, Sejuani jungle, Jinx ADC, and Thresh support, aiming to gain an early advantage through top-jungle synergy.
However, PSG immediately disrupted 100T’s plans by swapping lanes to pressure 100T’s top laner Sniper, preventing his Renekton from scaling. PSG’s execution was flawless, making it difficult for 100T’s top side to gain any traction. Additionally, PSG’s jungler Junjia opted for a cheaper item, Turbo Chemtank, and focused on securing objectives with his team, capturing all five Rift Heralds by the 11-minute mark.
At 14 minutes, PSG engaged in a team fight at the Rift Herald using Alistar and Mega Gnar to trap 100T from three sides, winning the fight and securing both the Herald and the first tower. By 20 minutes, PSG had grown their gold lead to over 8K.
In the red jungle at 23 minutes, PSG pulled off an impressive 0-for-4 fight and closed out the game at 26 minutes with a 20-1 kill score and a 15K gold lead.
Game 2
PSG drafted Rumble top, Sejuani jungle, Yone mid, Ezreal ADC, and Alistar support. 100T countered with Urgot top, Lillia jungle, Renekton mid, Ziggs ADC, and Rell support.
Both teams played standard lanes in this game. At 4 minutes, PSG’s support Woody capitalized on a mistake by flashing in with a WQ combo, allowing their ADC Betty to secure first blood.
In the first two Rift fights, PSG relied on Woody’s initiations to control the fight, securing four Rift Heralds and six kills over both fights.
Although 100T’s top laner Urgot picked up two kills in the mid-game, PSG secured the second Rift Herald and extended their gold lead to 5K by 21 minutes after claiming the Dragon Soul point.
At 25 minutes, PSG initiated another fight for Dragon Soul, where Woody’s Alistar once again led the charge. Despite 100T’s attempts to turn the fight, Betty’s Ezreal kited effectively, allowing PSG to secure the Chemtech Dragon Soul. Following this, PSG took Baron at 28 minutes.
With the Baron buff, PSG pushed through mid and bot lanes. At 29 minutes, a final fight broke out in the bot lane. Although 100T managed to take down Betty’s Ezreal using Renekton and Urgot, PSG’s Rumble melted the rest of the team. After a 4-for-1 fight, PSG regrouped and teleported to 100T’s base, ending the game and series 2-0, officially returning to the Top 16 stage!
