Tickets for the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Knockout Stage in Paris are quickly running out! The competition heats up as Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) and Top Esports (TES) secure their places by emerging victorious in Round 4 of the Swiss Stage. They join Gen.G Esports and LNG Esports as the first four teams to advance.
On the other hand, their opponents, Dplus KIA (DK) and FlyQuest (FLY), are moving to Round 5, along with four other teams. This is their last chance to clinch a spot in the Knockouts; failing that, they will be heading home.
TES Triumphs Over DPlus KIA
Top Esports (TES) showcased their dominance with a swift 2-0 victory against Dplus KIA (DK). TES demonstrated strategic prowess and adaptability, particularly in countering Showmaker’s Yone pick in Game 2.
- Game 1: TES took control early, executing an aggressive play around the bot lane tower at the 14-minute mark, which set the tone for their victory. By the end, they finished the game with a kill count of 15-4 and a 10k gold lead, concluding the match in just 33 minutes.
- Game 2: Despite a stronger start from DK, thanks to Showmaker’s Yone, TES exploited DK’s macro errors and weaknesses in team fights during the late game. 369 on K’Sante and Creme on Aurora were pivotal in securing the win.
This victory is significant for TES, who have struggled in past World Championships to advance beyond the Swiss Stage. DK now faces a critical juncture with a 2-2 win/loss record; their next match will determine if they progress to the quarterfinals or exit the tournament.
HLE Outlasts FlyQuest
In an unexpected turn, FlyQuest pushed Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) to their limits in a tightly contested series that ended 2-1 in favor of HLE.
- Game 1: FlyQuest employed a creative draft featuring Urgot, Amumu, and Cassiopeia, challenging HLE in significant team fights. However, HLE clinched the win after a clutch team fight, finishing with a 16-12 kill score in 33 minutes.
- Game 2: FlyQuest surprised HLE with a Nunu jungle pick, catching them off-guard and allowing FlyQuest to take control of objectives. Bwipo’s strong performance on Olaf helped FLY even the series.
- Game 3: HLE regained control in the final match, thanks to Peanut’s impactful plays on Skarner. Despite FlyQuest’s efforts to defend, HLE sealed the series with a decisive victory, finishing in 30 minutes.
