Goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman is a proud product of our Academy system.
He was on the bench for our final Premier League match of the 2023/24 season against Sheffield United, and later came on for Brandon Austin during our post-season friendly against Newcastle United at the iconic MCG in Melbourne.
A lifelong Spurs fan born and raised in Tottenham, Alfie attended Park View School and joined our Academy full-time in the summer of 2015. He made his debut for our Under-18s in the 2014/15 season, stepping off the bench during a 3-0 victory at Brighton in January 2015.
In his first full season with the Under-18s, 2015/16, Alfie started 12 league matches and participated in both FA Youth Cup fixtures. He also made his Under-21 debut in September 2015 in a memorable 7-4 home win over Leicester.
During the 2016/17 season, he started four of our six matches in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League, played nine league games for the Under-18s, made one start in the FA Youth Cup, and appeared twice for the Under-23s in Premier League 2. He was named on the first-team bench for our EFL Cup third-round victory over Gillingham in September 2016 and traveled with the senior squad on several matchdays.
In the 2017/18 season, Alfie played for our Development Squad and trained regularly with the first team. He was on the bench for our Premier League win against Crystal Palace in November 2017 and made 15 starts for the Under-23s in various competitions, notably saving two out of four penalties awarded to West Ham in a thrilling 7-2 victory in the Premier League International Cup in August 2017.
He appeared on the bench for three consecutive matches in September 2018 and signed a new contract with the Club shortly thereafter. Alfie played six times for the Development Squad during the 2018/19 season, including four matches in Premier League 2 and two in the EFL Trophy against senior teams Gillingham and Portsmouth.
In the 2019/20 season, he regularly trained with the senior squad and made five appearances for the Development Squad across all competitions.
Alfie made his competitive first-team debut in November 2020 during a Europa League match against Ludogorets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He also made three additional appearances for the Development Squad in Premier League 2 during the 2020/21 campaign.
In December 2022, he returned to the Club after completing two separate loan spells at Swedish side Degerfors IF over the previous 18 months. He initially joined them in August 2021, making 13 appearances during the remainder of the 2021 season to help them avoid relegation from the top flight. He returned to Degerfors in February 2022 for the duration of the 2022 Allsvenskan season, contributing 21 appearances as he helped maintain their top-flight status once again.
Alfie has represented England at various youth levels, from Under-16 to Under-19, and served as the starting goalkeeper for the Young Lions at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2015.
