All-action goalkeeper Brandon Austin is a product of our Academy system.

Since returning from a loan spell at Orlando City in the summer of 2021, Brandon has established himself as a regular member of our first-team squad. In the 2023/24 season, he was on the bench 17 times across all competitions and served as our number two goalkeeper for the final 14 matches following a season-ending injury to Fraser Forster. His efforts were rewarded with a new contract until 2029, as well as a start in our post-season friendly against Newcastle United, where he played in front of 77,000 fans at the iconic MCG in Melbourne in May 2024.

Born and raised in Hemel Hempstead, Brandon attended the Cavendish School and was previously with Chelsea before joining our youth setup. He was part of his school’s basketball team, which won the district championship, and his father was a professional basketball player.

Brandon was a member of our youth squad that won the South Korea Cup during pre-season in 2014. He made his Under-18 debut against Reading in September 2015 and played five matches at that level during the 2015/16 season, also appearing on the bench several times.

His second year as an Under-18 player in 2016/17 saw him make significant strides, highlighted by lifting the IMG Cup in Florida with our Under-18s in December 2016. As one of four goalkeepers at that level, he started 13 Under-18 Premier League matches, more than any of his peers. He also featured in four matches during our run to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals, earning praise for a series of spectacular saves in the first leg against Chelsea at White Hart Lane. Additionally, he played once in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League and made two appearances for the Under-23s in Premier League 2.

Holding dual US and English nationality, his performances caught the attention of US Soccer officials, leading to his call-up for the USA Under-18s for their Slovakia Cup campaign in April 2017. Later, he was invited to training camps with the England Under-19s towards the end of the 2017/18 season.

After traveling with our first team on their summer 2017 tour of the United States, he trained periodically with our senior goalkeepers throughout the 2017/18 season, showcasing impressive shot-stopping abilities in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League. He played 12 matches in all competitions for the Under-23s, starting seven of our eight games in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League. In a memorable performance, he was the hero in our penalty shootout victory over Monaco in the round of 16. He also played twice in the Under-18 Premier League, lending his experience to the younger players.

In the 2018/19 season, he served as the regular number one for our Development Squad, making 21 appearances at that level. He also played a vital role in our UEFA Youth League team, featuring in every match as we advanced through the group stage and defeated PAOK in the playoff round before succumbing to Porto in the last 16. Brandon captained the side in six of those eight games.

After joining the first team squad for several matchdays, he made his competitive bench debut as the substitute goalkeeper in a 1-1 home draw with Watford in the Premier League in October 2019. Following a few more appearances on the bench, he earned his first call-ups to the England Under-21 national squad in October and November 2019.

In January 2020, Brandon joined Danish side Viborg FF on loan for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, where he made 14 senior appearances. After spending the first half of the 2020/21 season with us, he was loaned to Orlando City in January 2021, where he made five appearances during the first half of the 2021 MLS season.

Upon returning to Spurs in the summer of 2021, Brandon stepped up to become a regular member of the first team. He was named on the bench 13 times in the 2021/22 season and made his first team debut in a friendly against Team K League. He also came off the bench during our pre-season tour of Korea against Sevilla in the summer of 2022. The following season, 2022/23, he was on the bench 20 times across all competitions.
