Micky van de Ven joined us from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023.
Micky’s arrival in N17 marked an impressive start to his career here! He had a memorable first season, clinching a clean sweep of Player of the Season awards, making his senior international debut, and securing a spot in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024. Notably, he was recognized as the fastest player in the Premier League, clocking in at 37.38 km/h during a sprint against Brentford on January 31, 2024.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the defender. He faced a significant setback with a serious hamstring injury sustained against Chelsea on November 6, which sidelined him for 10 weeks. Micky made his comeback against Manchester United at Old Trafford in January 2024, ultimately finishing the season with 29 appearances in all competitions, including 27 starts in the Premier League, and scoring three goals.
Micky opened his scoring account with a decisive goal against Luton in October, followed by a stunning strike that helped us defeat Nottingham Forest in April 2024. He capped off his goal tally with another clinical finish against Burnley in May, coinciding with him being named Player of the Season by our Official Supporters’ Club and One Hotspur Members.
He made his debut for the Netherlands national team against France in October 2023 and was subsequently included in Ronald Koeman’s squad for Euro 2024 in June 2024.
Born in Wormer, Netherlands, Micky began his football journey with WSV ’30 Wormer before joining the youth team at FC Volendam in July 2013. He advanced through the ranks and made 48 senior appearances, scoring twice.
An athletic center-back, Micky earned a move to VfL Wolfsburg in August 2021, where he made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists.
At the international level, Micky has represented the Netherlands’ Under-21 team and participated in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2023. He was also named in the preliminary squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. After making his senior debut against France, his performances during the 2023/24 season earned him a spot in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024, bringing his cap total to four ahead of the tournament.
