Romanian international defender Radu Drăgușin joined Tottenham Hotspur from Serie A club Genoa in January 2024.
Born in Bucharest, Radu made an immediate impact at Spurs, debuting off the bench in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in January 2024. He earned his first start in March 2024 against Fulham and went on to make nine Premier League appearances, starting four.
Radu began his football journey with local clubs Sportul Studențesc and Regal Sport București before moving to Italy in 2018 to join Juventus at the age of 16. He quickly progressed through their youth system, featuring for Juventus’ Under-23 team in Serie C by age 17. He made his professional and European debut at 18, appearing as a substitute in Juventus’ 3-0 UEFA Champions League group stage victory over Dynamo Kyiv in December 2020. His Serie A debut followed shortly after, with a late cameo against Genoa in the same month.
After four first-team appearances for Juventus in his debut season, Radu went on loan to Sampdoria for the 2021/22 season, making 15 appearances. In 2022, he moved to US Salernitana, helping the team avoid relegation in their first season back in Serie A since 1999.
Radu’s career truly took off during a loan spell at Genoa in the 2022/23 season, where he played every minute of the league campaign, scoring four goals and helping the club secure promotion to Serie A as they finished second in Serie B. Genoa made his transfer permanent midway through the season, and Radu continued his stellar form in the 2023/24 campaign, playing every minute and scoring twice before his transfer to Spurs.
On the international stage, Radu worked his way up through Romania’s youth teams before earning his first senior call-up in March 2022. He made his debut that month in a friendly against Greece, playing alongside experienced defender Vlad Chiricheș. At 21, Radu is already an established presence for both club and country.
