Every year during the League of Legends World Championship, Riot Games hosts its beloved “Pick’em” event, where fans and players attempt to predict various outcomes such as match results, team performances, and even lighter topics like the most picked or banned champions during the group stage. Participants have the chance to win a range of prizes, including the coveted ultimate skins for the game if they manage to predict all outcomes perfectly.
However, the 2024 event has taken an unexpected turn. Just before reaching the quarterfinals, Riot announced that no participant has achieved a “perfect Pick’em.” This means that players can no longer secure the ultimate skin rewards for flawless predictions.
Adding to the surprise, Riot also revealed the existence of a single “imperfect Pick’em,” attributed to a player who remarkably has not made a single correct prediction thus far. This has sparked humor and discussions across social media platforms like Reddit and X, with some users jokingly suggesting that Riot should consider a “reverse prize”—removing ultimate skins from this player’s account.
The League of Legends community has largely attributed the lack of perfect predictions to surprising outcomes from the Play-In Stage. For example, the third seed from the LCS, 100 Thieves, faced early elimination, while Brazilian underdog paiN Gaming made history by advancing to the Swiss Stage.
As the next phase of the World Championship kicks off on October 17, fans can look forward to matchups including LNG vs. Weibo Gaming, Hanwha Life Esports vs. Bilibili Gaming, Top Esports vs. T1, and Gen.G vs. FlyQuest.
