Simiyann is a four-year-old bay gelding born in Ireland on February 7, 2020. He is trained by Ian Williams and owned by Martin John Hall. Simiyann comes from a strong lineage, being sired by Australia, a highly regarded racehorse, and his dam, Simiyna, is also from a prominent bloodline connected to the Aga Khan Studs, a well-known breeding operation.
Simiyann has competed in 17 races so far, achieving four placings, including several close finishes. Although he is yet to secure a win, his performance has been notable, particularly in races in the UK. Some highlights include placing 5th on his UK debut at Wolverhampton and 2nd in a tight photo finish at the same venue a month later. He has also shown promise at Lingfield and Chelmsford, consistently finishing in the top positions.
Simiyann’s most recent performances suggest he’s a horse to watch, although he struggled in his last outing at Pontefract where he wore a visor for the first time. Despite these ups and downs, his connections remain optimistic about his future races, with upcoming entries scheduled at Uttoxeter and Wolverhampton.
Yesterday’s Nap marked the third setback in a row, diminishing the running profit to a modest +£14. However, today offers a fresh opportunity to improve that figure.
Race Details:
- Race: Nap of the Day
- Location: Chelmsford – 17:30
- Horse: Simiyann
- Odds: 5/1
Simiyann enters the race at Chelmsford with appealing early odds of 5/1, and there are several reasons to feel optimistic about his chances. Firstly, the competition isn’t too fierce, giving the Ian Williams-trained gelding a solid chance to perform better than his previous outing at Pontefract. Returning to a two-mile trip while dropping in grade, Simiyann is positioned for a better showing, especially given his promising course run history.
Simiyann’s previous two-mile effort at Newcastle in Class 5 company saw him finishing a respectable fourth, just shy of third, with a strong effort throughout. Prior to that, he put in a notable performance over one mile and six furlongs at Chelmsford, securing fourth in a higher Class 6 race. These solid results show that he has the potential to be a serious contender in today’s Class 6 event.
Having twice placed in Class 5 races on the all-weather track last season, Simiyann has been unlucky not to secure a win yet. However, his form suggests that today could be the day. Given the weaker competition and the return of cheekpieces, it’s not far-fetched to believe he could finally get off the mark. With his trainer hitting recent form, Simiyann could easily justify being the favorite.
At current odds of 5/1, Simiyann offers excellent value. Even if his price were shorter, around 7/2, he’d still be worth backing. With the odds in our favor, this could be a smart play.
