Match Recap: TES vs T1

Despite the high expectations of a close series, T1 showcased a level of organization and strategy that left TES with little room to mount a serious challenge. The match, while slow and calculated in pacing, saw both teams carefully building up their champions and waiting for opportunities to strike. T1 consistently found better moments, outplaying TES in most situations.

TES showed signs of resistance in Game 3, briefly giving the impression that they might bounce back after an early disadvantage. However, T1 quickly quashed that hope with a few well-executed plays, taking kills and furthering their lead. It became evident that T1 was in full control, as they systematically dismantled TES in the final stages of the game.

With this decisive victory, T1 advanced to the semi-finals and will face the winner of the Gen.G vs. FlyQuest quarterfinal, scheduled for October 27. T1’s impressive consistency in reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship continues, further cementing their legendary status in the LoL esports scene.

Faker’s Post-Match Interview:

“We had an amazing game today. I think we got lucky. […] I’m constantly thinking about how I’m going to improve, how to develop myself. Also, I love playing League of Legends. […] I don’t know who our next opponents will be yet, but it’s going to be another banger, just like today. I hope we can maintain the same form we showed today.”

Faker, T1

Game 1

The series kicked off with both T1 and Top Esports (TES) opting for aggressive plays right from the start. Faker secured First Blood for T1, but TES quickly responded with a couple of kills to balance the early game.

T1 managed to stay slightly ahead in terms of objectives, securing four Voidgrubs, two Dragons, and even taking the Herald despite TES’s attempts to contest it. However, they struggled to gain any significant gold lead early on.

T1 focused on strategic map movement, avoiding unnecessary risks, even if it meant giving up a Dragon to TES. Their goal was to scale up Camille in the hands of Zeus and prepare for stronger team fights. TES had a similar strategy in mind, with Tian’s Ivern growing stronger and securing a key kill near Baron. But T1 avoided major engagements until they were fully prepared. When the time came, they obliterated TES in a decisive team fight.

TES attempted a desperate Baron play as they re-entered the Rift, but Oner, in classic form, stole the Baron. His teammates swiftly took down the entire TES squad, leading to a siege on TES’s base, securing T1’s Game 1 victory.

Game 2

In Game 2, Faker pulled out his iconic Ahri pick, while Creme countered with Sylas, a champion Faker had used previously. The top lane matchup saw Zeus on Rumble while 369 opted for Galio.

TES took a more proactive approach to contest objectives, securing two Voidgrubs early. T1 responded by taking the first Dragon, but the second set of Voidgrubs turned disastrous for TES, as they lost a crucial team fight. Faker’s impeccable positioning led to several key kills, and by the 15-minute mark, T1 had amassed a 2k gold lead. Faker alone held a 1.2k advantage over his mid-lane counterpart.

TES attempted to claw back by taking turrets and other objectives, but even their Herald push failed to break T1’s momentum. The mid-game slowed down, with both teams playing cautiously, but when TES made a move for Dragon, T1 engaged without much success. The match became a slow dance around the Mid lane, with no kills for an extended period.

However, once T1 initiated Baron, they wiped out TES when they attempted to contest. With the Baron buff and three Dragons in their pocket, T1 stormed TES’s base, securing a perfect, deathless win and putting themselves on match point.

Game 3

Keria added flair to Game 3 by picking Pyke, while Faker switched to Galio. Tian opted for Xin Zhao, a champion previously used by T1’s jungler, Oner.

Once again, T1 secured First Blood, and despite TES actively hunting for kills, it was T1 who consistently came out on top. The early game saw T1 claim four Voidgrubs, while Faker held a solid 1k gold lead. TES did manage to take a Dragon and Herald, but by the 15-minute mark, they were down 6k gold. Though TES tried to rally with a few kills, T1 carefully avoided risky engagements, slowing the pace of the game.

TES managed to put up a strong fight in objective contests, successfully scaring T1 away from Baron on one occasion. Despite being on the verge of elimination, TES held on — but only briefly. T1 found a few key kills and swiftly destroyed the Nexus, eliminating Top Esports from LoL Worlds 2024.

Epic Competition

This quarterfinal was not just a battle between T1 and TES, two titans with a rich head-to-head history, but also a showcase of the ongoing rivalry between the LCK (LoL Champions Korea) and LPL (LoL Pro League, China). Fans were eager to witness this clash of regional giants, as it embodied the intrigue of the LoL Worlds 2024 playoff bracket.

T1 vs TES Rivalry

The intensity between T1 and TES has been building throughout 2024. The two teams met in the grand final of the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2024, where T1 emerged victorious despite an early loss to TES in Game 1. T1 adapted quickly and found their unstoppable rhythm, clinching the championship.

At the start of the LoL World Championship 2024, the teams faced off in a Bo1 match during the Swiss stage, where TES secured a win by capitalizing on T1’s early mistakes. But the quarterfinal gave T1 the opportunity to reclaim dominance, and they did so decisively.

LCK vs LPL Showdown

The Knockout stage of LoL Worlds 2024 has set up a potential grand final clash between the LCK and LPL. After Bilibili Gaming (BLG) defeated Hanwha Life Esports (HLE), the LPL secured at least one finalist, with either BLG or Weibo Gaming advancing from one branch of the bracket. On the other side, the winner of TES vs T1 will face the victor of the Gen.G vs FlyQuest semi-final, keeping alive the possibility of an LCK team making it to the grand final. The competition between these two regions is set to reach its climax as the tournament progresses.
