Have you watched the video for “Heavy is The Crown,” the theme song for Worlds 2024 in League of Legends? The animation is incredible and has received great feedback from fans, and of course, it contains various references!
If you haven’t seen it, watch it below before checking out the “spoilers.”
Check out the Easter eggs in “Heavy is The Crown,” the theme song for Worlds 2024. The music video conveys a lot about the title’s meaning: heavy is the crown, just like it is a battle to maintain possession of that crown.
The video starts with a reminder of T1’s journey, the champion of Worlds 2023, represented on a banner, even mentioning Faker’s iconic Azir moment that decided the series against JDG (semifinal) against Ruler.
We also have a reference to the quarterfinals of Worlds 2023, where Oner found Gala, who was giving hope to LNG, but T1’s jungler’s Rell crushed Chinese hopes.
The last reference is to Game 3 of the Grand Finals, with an exact mention of the champions played: Xiaohu’s Azir, Weiwei’s Bel’Veth, TheShy’s Kennen, and Crisp’s Bard facing off against Zeus’s Aatrox, who was considered the MVP of the tournament.
New Competitors for the Crown
Other players are coming for this crown, well represented by the “characters” that appear right after T1: Massu, ADC of FlyQuest; Brance, ADC of RED Canids; and Bin, top-laner of BLG, are the new generation trying to snatch this crown from Faker.
But there are also “old-school” players who want this crown. G2’s Caps, represented by Sylas, which is almost a poetic license as a character who wants to overthrow kings, and LeBlanc (who also likes to take thrones that aren’t hers).
A more enigmatic figure appears in the form of Akali. It suggests Gen.G’s Chovy due to the golden garments, another one stealthily trying to achieve Faker’s legacy (another good character-narrative reference).
T1 manages to defend the throne, but prepares for another battle.
In the end, T1, with a triumphant entrance of Faker as Azir, manages to defend the throne, but the very ending gives a spoiler that the battle isn’t over yet, as other enemies will attempt to take the throne, symbolizing Worlds 2024.
